The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is an international learned society for computing. It was founded in 1947 and is the world's largest scientific and educational computing society. It is a not-for-profit professional membership group. Its membership is more than 100,000 as of 2011. Its headquarters are in New York City. The ACM is an umbrella organization for academic and scholarly interests in computer science.
MIET ACM is the first student chapter created in In J&K at MIET,JAMMU. Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), organized the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), Distinguished Lecture at its campus. Dr. Gargi Banerjee Dasgupta, Senior Research Manager, IBM Research, India delivered a deeply insightful talk on "Cognitive Computing" covering aspects of artificial intelligence, machine and deep learning, natural language processing and sentiment analysis for over 200 computer science and IT students and faculty members of MIET. Dr. Gargi was accorded a warm welcome by the student members of the ACM Student Chapter at MIET and given a demonstration of the in-house developed analytics product Performance Insight 360 which she greatly appreciated. She then proceeded to deliver her talk which revolved around increasing the intelligence of machines in terms of their ability to think, reason and act. Later Prof. Ankur Gupta and Dr Gargi B. Dasupta held discussions on possible collaboration on innovative projects in cognitive computing, especially in the domain of analytics for education and learning management. Dr. Gargi assured MIET of all possible help going forward.
